How is home care funded?
In the UK, home care is financed through three main channels:

Local Authority Funded Care: To determine eligibility for care, individuals need to contact their local authority for a free needs assessment. If assessed as eligible, a financial assessment follows to calculate the contribution towards care costs. The upper limits for assets and savings in 2020-21 are as follows:
-
England: £23,250
-
Wales: £24,000
-
Northern Ireland and Scotland: No financial assessment applies; personal care at home is free for those assessed as needing it by the local authority.

Self-Funding: Individuals or their family/representatives bear the costs for their care.

NHS Funded Care: In certain situations, the person requiring care may receive full or partial funding from the NHS.
Even if one chooses not to seek financial support from the local authority, undergoing a needs assessment can be beneficial.
Local authority representatives can provide information about available services to meet specific needs, such as occupational therapy or physiotherapy, which can still be accessed free of charge even without applying for care funding.
